I made it semi dry and made of 1/2 kg Peas and used half the Garam masala. M

Banarasi Matar Ka Nimona

​A simple dish , yet so flavorsome . Typically this dish comes with a gravy , I decided to make it as a dry curry . This is Banaras fasting food , so no onions or garlic are used . I believe no tomatoes are used too though I added some . Here is what we did .

​1 Kg Peas – Weight before shelling.

2 Potatoes – Unpeeled , cubed and fried- Optional.

1/2 Cup Tomatoes pureed – Optional

1″ Ginger

2-4 Green Chilies.

1 Teaspoon Jeera.

1 Tej Putta.

1 Teaspoon Jeera Powder.

1 Teaspoon Garam Masala.

Ghee.

1. Coarsely blend half the peas , remove. Liquidize the balance peas with ginger and chilies , adding some water.

2. Heat ghee, splutter jeera , add tej putta , when aromatic add salt and tomatoes if using . When tomatoes have cooked add pease , add some water and cook till peas are almost done , at this stage add the potatoes , jeera powder and cook for 5-6 minutes .

3. Take off heat adding garam masala and a dollop of ghee.

You can make this wet or semi dry as I have . It’s delicious !
