Kachri Khatti Meethi ( kachri sweet n sour)Kachri is a very tiny fruit from the melon family n looks like a tiny watermelon. It is also used as a meat tenderiser. 

Widely used in Rajasthan in a variety of dishes. It is tangy n gives a different n very nice flavour . 
250 GMs kachris peeled 

1/2 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp fennel ( saunf)

1/4 tsp nigella seeds

1 tsp coriander pwd 

Red chilli pwd as per taste

1/4 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/2 tbsp sugar

1/4 tsp heeng

1 tsp ghee or less/ oil

Soak the red chilli pwd, turmeric n coriander pwd in 1/4 cup of water
After peeling the kachris. Taste each one this is mandatory because some of them can be quite bitter n spoil the taste of the entire dish. 

Cut into roundels. Heat a wok. Add the ghee

Add the cumin , heeng n saunf. As they start turning brown add the nigella seeds. Add the 

Soaked spices n let it boil. Add the cut kachris mix it well add a cup of water n let it come to a boil. Add the salt n lower the flame. Cover n let it simmer. Keep checking 

As the kachris start becoming translucent it is cooked. If the gravy is thin give it a few more boils to let it thicken

Enjoy with a missi roti or any roti of your choice
