Dal Dhokli

A meal in a bowl
My version of a delicious Gujju dal since I don’t like dals very thick or slimy

1/2 cup Arhar/Tuvar dal washed n soaked for an hour

2 tbsp peanuts
3 Pcs kokum soaked
1 tsp ginger green chillies crushed
1/2 tsp turmeric
2 tsp sugar. I added1/2 tsp sugar( add sugar as per your taste.ive added very less sugar because we don’t like sweet dal)
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 red chilli pwd
Salt

Boil the dal with 2 cups of water in a cooker. For 2-3 whistles. Let the pressure release on its own
Whisk it. Add more water if needed . We Are looking for a thin dal. Coz the dhokli will soak up quite a bit of the liquid .drain the water from the Kokum
Now add all the above mentioned ingredients to the dal n cook it for about 10-15 mins on an open flame

For the tempering
1 tbsp ghee
1/4tsp rai
1/4 tsp jeera
2-3 dried red chillies
A few curry leaves
A pinch of hing
2 cloves
Heat the ghee in a tadka PAN. Add the hing n the rest of the ingredients. Let them splutter, pour the tadka into the dal. N cook for 2-3 mins.

For the dhokli
1/2 cup Atta ( wheat flour)
2 tbsp Besan
1/2 tsp redchilli pwd
A bit of salt
1/4 tsp carrom seeds Ajwain
1 tsp oil

Mix all the ingredients n knead to a soft dough with water.
Make thin rotis with this n lightly roast on a tawa. Many people don’t but I always do
Cut into small diamond shapes
Just before serving heat the dal add the dhoklas to the dal n cook for 2-3 mins so the the dhoklis soak up some liquid
